Overview

All of Sunoco’s refineries have the capability for Jet Fuel production. Sunoco supplies more than 3,000,000 U.S. Gallons per day of Jet Fuel to more than 40 airlines and corporate jet fleets at more than 25 airports in the United States.

ULSD Update

For those customers purchasing the new federally mandated Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) that could reach the marketplace as early as June 15, 2006, the following information regarding potential seal leakage is important to understand and communicate downstream.

With the introduction of Low Sulfur Diesel (LSD) fuel (<500 ppm S) in 1993, there were reported fuel seal failures for diesel equipment throughout the U.S.

The problem included leaking fuel seals, especially in older vehicles and equipment with Nitrile rubber (Buna-N or Natural Rubber) seals.

As ULSD (<15 ppm S) is introduced in June of 2006, aromatics once again could be lowered and there is a possibility of fuel leakage, particularly in older vehicles and equipment. In 1993, the fuel system leakage occurred primarily with aged seals (o-rings) and hoses made of nitrile rubber (whereas, fluorocarbon elastomers (Viton) did not experience seal failures). Since then, most OEMs have switched from Nitrile to Viton; however, there are still older vehicles and equipment in service that may have Buna-N seals.
